Dulha Mil Gaya literally breaks new grounds with taking a Bollywood plot toTrinidad and Tobago. But beyond that this marriage miscarriage movie moves east of West Indies to introduce India for the zillionth time as nothing more than a small village in pastureland Punjab.

So you are supposed to believe that Tej Dhanraj (Fardeen Khan) is a billionaire-bachelor-playboy and to retain all these adjectival attributes he has to agree to his late father’s will. Ruefully, Randhir Kapoor is resurrected as the late father but is reduced to a retro portrait that does nothing other than subtly suggesting that the story dates back to his 1975 film Ponga Pandit. As per the will, Tej has to marry his father’s friend’s daughter to inherit the assets.

That brings the NRI protagonist to Punjab through the regular route traversed by almost every romance flick from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge to Dil Bole Hadippa and several Namastey London in between. Tej registers a court marriage with gaon-ki-gori Samarpreet Kapoor (Ishita Sharma) for formality sake and runs away, never to return back. The gori takes it on herself to trace her husband in Trinidad only to realize she was conned.

Enter supermodel Shimmer (Sushmita Sen) who gives a facelift to Samarpreet revamping her to Samara so much so that Tej doesn’t recognize her real identity. Evidently its Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi revisited with a gender reversal where the girl substitutes shaving-off-the-moustache gimmick with dropping-her-spectacles for an image makeover. Sadly that doesn’t give any new perspective to the narrative.

If that wasn’t indicative enough, Shahrukh Khan makes an appearance towards the end of a karwa chauth song and how one wishes at least he could have forestalled the foreseeable resemblance between his two consecutive releases. Candyfloss continues with a tinge of forced patriotism as the heroine counterattacks the illusion of Indian woman not being career-oriented saying, “India ki ladkiyan sau karod ghar chalati hai”.

New director Mudassar Aziz comes from the old school of filmmaking who puts no lateral thinking in his conventional-to-the-core writing and direction. And though he doesn’t resort to toilet humour, Mudassar (literally) employs latrine thinking in scripting a couple of scenes where cupid strikes when the couple is heading towards lavatory. The characterizations are as much clichéd as their conflicts.

The village belle gives way for some standard broken English jokes but the dialogues are far from being funny, forget witty. And when everything else fails to incite emotions, the background score struggles hard to achieve that. Choreographer Howard Rosemeyer almost replicates the ‘Bole Chudiyan’ dance steps in the karwa chauth song number. Leena Chanda’s tackily designed set doesn’t pass off as a cruise liner. Lalit Pandit’s music is plain average.

Sushmita Sen carries a fake accent, occasionally does an Archana Puran Singh, has inconsistent comic timing but looks absolutely gorgeous. Ishita Sharma shows potential which remains untapped in a hackneyed film like this. Fardeen Khan is passable. Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t rise above the regular in his extended cameo. Mohit Chadda doesn’t get much scope. Tara Sharma shouldn’t act without using a dubbing artist. Or better Tara Sharma shouldn’t act. Johnny Lever is wasted in an inconsequential serious role. Howard Rosemeyer’s acting is more animated than his choreography.

“Say yes to a relationship’ reads the tagline of the film. But if you don’t relate to a predictable plotline like this, rather say no to the film.

We want to make this the most talked about promotional activity in Bollywood and it's being done on a major scale," a source from the film unit told IANS.

In the film, Shahid plays a struggler who comes to Mumbai to make it big in the movies. According to the source, the activity was planned as it bears semblance with the lives of those who come here to try their luck and also because a scene in the movie depicts it.

"This activity has similarities with our movie. In fact in his own days of struggle, Shahid used to sleep in a car many times. In the movie also, there's a scene where these strugglers have to spend nights altogether, because they have no place to stay," added the source.

The activity will continue till Thursday morning and those who will be present there will be able to share tea and bun maska (bun and butter) with the stars. It will be served at 6 am.

Bollywood mega star Amitabh Bachchan has clarified that he is not playing the role of Gautam Buddha in Puri Jagannathan's film Budda.

"Media is thinking that the next film of mine with Puri is on Gautam Buddha simply because the title approved for that film is Budda, which means an old man and not Buddhist saint Gautam Buddha," Big B wrote on his blogbigb.biggadda.com.

"Either the electronic media misunderstood the title because of the spelling or they mixed the other news of Vivek Sharma, director of Bhoothnath, wishing to make a film titledBuddham Sharanam Gachchami with me," Amitabh added.

Though team 3 Idiots is celebrating the film's success, author Chetan Bhagat is upset. The author of Five Point Someone, on which 3 Idiotsis based was surprised not to get an opening credit in the film. And even in the closing credit roll, Chetan's name comes quite late.

"The key plot points, the characters, incidents, messages, story - it's an adaptation. There are some changes which any adaptation has and it's ironic that no story credit is given to me. And it's strange that you do it to a book which is so popular because people are going to find out and people have found out and they have flooded my twitter page about it," he says.

However, the gang behind 3 Idiots were quick to defend themselves when faced with allegations of having given the writer a raw deal.

Actor Aamir Khan says, "I met Chetan when I was shooting here, and I told him I have not read your book. He said don't bother, the script is different. This he told me some eight months back and if he is saying something else then that reflects on him. Not on Raju or Vidhu Vinod Chopra."

The producer of 3 Idiots, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has even accused Chetan of being publicity hungry as the film has now become blockbuster hit.

Chopra says, "He (Chetan Bhagat) was promised a bonus if the film becomes a hit, and it was given to him even before the film released. You are giving fame to a man like that. When a film becomes a hit, a lot of people come out to share credit."

However Chetan is unperturbed by Aamir and Vidhu Vinod Chopra's indifferent reactions to his concerns.

He says, "Some of the makers have accused me of being fame hungry. I think they don't realise how popular I am. As a writer, I don't think anyone had as much fame as I have. On Twitter, on my blog, on my column, you can see that (fame)."

Bound by contract, Chetan Bhagat may not be able to take any legal action against team3 Idiots but he will surely be reading the fineprint with extra care the next time round.

First Hindi film of 2010…

Expectations were low from BOLO RAAM, the only reason I wanted to catch it was for it’s tremendous supporting cast of Om Puri, Nasseridian Shah, Govind Namdeo, and Rajpal Yadav. The film is below average on the whole.

A remake of the Tamil film RAAM (starring Jeeva) the movie is a murder mystery/who-dunnit told in a somewhat lethargic manner. Raam Kaushik (newcomer Rishi Bhutani in a robotic debut performance) has been accused of killing his mother (yesteryear actress Padmini Kohlapuri striking a low-key comeback with a endearing yet nothing special act). The officer’s in charge Rathi (Om Puri) and Khan (Govind Namdeo) have opposing views on the boy, the later having vested interests of his own. Who’s the real killer? The outcome is ordinary.

So we all know who Shenaz Treasurywala is. The same cute, chubby thing on MTV. She was reallysweet. Well, don't ask me what happened to her all of a sudden but the fun girl has transformed into a I'm-politically-correct-but-I'm-so-jealous-of-Bebo actress overnight.

Let me tell you what happened. It was just the other day I was getting my face rejuvenated with one of those Swiss chocolate facials (really darlings, cocoa is good on either side of your body), when my friend told me all that this babe is going around saying.

So Shenaz who's all set to star with Himesh Reshammiya in his forthcoming film Radio, says she will NEVER wear the bikini. Since I did not want to spoil my expensive facial and priceless face, I kept myself from laughing out loud! Darling, Shenaz, to wear a bikini in your tenth film, start going to the gym TODAY!

Not that I blame her really. I mean she did start her film career with Shahid Kapoor and look where he is today. He even dated Kareena who looks so hot in a bikini and has a figure to carry it off.

Somehow controlling my laughter, I asked my friend why Shenaz would say such a thing? So she explained...

Apparently, Shenaz declared to the media that she doesn't want to be just another one wearing bikinis. Uhm. And also that she has a 'personality' which by the way, is her strength. WOW. How did she think up all these things? Personality? Really?

And that's not all darlings. The Radioactress also adds that she doesn't want to be known for her sexy body. And wearing bikinis can do that!

By this time I had to get my sweet face pack removed. I just needed to laugh!

Oh, so however, Shenaz apparently also tried to bring out her sexy self by talking about the many bikinis she has in her closet. Bravo!

So will she never wear a bikini? I asked my friend hoping that we'll be spared from one B'wood terror show at least. But oh no, that's not to be. The girl apparently recapitulated (after all bikinis gets you the roles) and said that she doesn't mind wearing a bikini on screen as long as it didn't have any sexual implication. Oh trust me girl, even if you were to wear a bikini and play with a bunny in the bed, it would be quite safe for kids to watch!
