Cinema truly knows no language…my first Tamil film without subtitles, and it was easy to follow (and just as enjoyable for the most) though granted, some of the finer nuances of the language certainly enlighten the experience, though not necessary at all. I plan to catch Mahesh Babu’s ARJUN, and TAKARI DONGA as well as MAGHADHEERA and the A WEDNESDAY remake. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Vikram film, the last one was MAJAA (2005)though I did revisit ANNIYAN (2005) again twice. Judging from some of the promo’s KANDHASAMY came across as a weird take-off in the ANNIYAN genre however this time there’s only two persona’s. Does the film work? Yes, for the most, KANDHASAMY remains an enjoyable masala ride, and a lot of fun for Vikram fans! Apart from the breath-taking action sequences which is a must for a vehicle of this nature, the film truly belongs to Vikram who surprises with an effective performance. I haven’t seen BHEEMA yet, however from MAJAA to this, one can truly say Vikram’s still in top form. Unlike say an over-the-top performance like Remo in ANNIYAN, the CBI Officer is far more subdued and restraint often reminding me of the Vikram from SAMURAI (another favourite). The entire Ashwariya homage was a laugh-riot too and done in good humour! Shriya Saran I found dead sexy! She played her part well and had great chemistry. Ashish Vidyarthi is always (un)welcome as the lecherous villain. Vadivelu is a delight as always. I don’t know much about whether this was a super hit or a super flop, but I would be hard-pressed to believe this film flopped! It’s a racy entertainer which delivers what it promises. MAJAA was too small a film after ANNIYAN for Vikram which caught audiences off-guard. BHEEMA (from what I’ve been told) is solid for the most bar a disruptive ending. However KANDHASAMY is a through and through winner. My thoughts on KANDHASAMY (Tamil, 2009)

My thoughts on KANDHASAMY
Vikram enacts two roles, one of Kandasamy which is a masked crusader dressed like a rooster who has more tricks and gadgets to put Batman to shame (I kid you not!) and the other is an honest CBI officer with a no-holds-barred attitude. He’s on a mission to discover illegal wealth which brings him across Pallur Paramajyoti Ponnusamy or PPP (Ashish Vidyarti). After conducting a series of raids leaving PPP devastated, his daughter Subalakashmi (Shriya Saran) swears to get revenge by making him fall for her then breaking his heart!
Susi Ganesan has made a rather odd entry in to the genre here, as usually one finds the alter-ego of the super-hero a complete contrast to his superhero image. In KANDASAMY we have 2 super-hero’s in essence with Vikram the CBI officer being more dominant for most of the part.
